What are these hardcore PC games that most modern affordable laptops cannot play?

Everyone is willing to throw in their 2 cents about how your future endeavor could play moderate games but will not be able to run smoothly the hardcore ones. So what are these games that take mammoth beasts of pc’s to run? Besides the obvious, Crysis or CoD4.
And dont tell me it depends on the specs. Thats just stupid.

I’ve noticed the same things with PC games lately. Up until I got a “gaming computer” I used to be amazed at what some games required. My guess is that games feel they need these absurdly demanding graphics to keep up with console games and other media in this age. I doubt lower-spec games with crummy graphics would be very popular among gamers these days.
Actually, you can play a lot of games, (including crysis and cod4) on a lower end pc if you have graphics turned down to low. However, that destroys these games which are supposed to have rich, in depth graphics. Some more games include counter-strike source, GRID (racing game), and even COD2 needs a pretty good computer to run it well.
